_Rhythm in my veins….
Processing using camera tracking, beat detection and a lot of dancing!!
So the course was computational design, which involves processing a lot of code on computers, to do magnificent things on the screen, and beyond, whether it be processing data into beautiful patterns or interacting with your webcam. This is no easy feat, and incredibly hard, especially for a beginner like me. We could choose to do a poster or an interaction.  I decided to record my data through interaction with the camera, and then display the visuals created on a poster. In a retaliation against the confines of code writing ( confine for me, being the fixed position in front of the computer screen) I wanted to encourage physical interaction that would create my data….surprise surprise…dancing. I built the code to display contours of the body, blue lines on a white background, that would then build up a pattern with several movements, accompanied by a beat detection, that would offset the lines to the beat in the music. I then collated the results, selecting abstracts and manipulating them to represent the movement and music combined. For me, every piece of music can instill a special energy, that through dance can be interpreted…and now computer coding as well!!! DA DA!!!!Although I found it extremely difficult to grasp the coding, the course was very important for understanding the medium and the potential it has within interaction design. I tried to make something simple and achievable for me, but importantly translate a very emotive human interaction ( the interaction we have with music) within a relatively emotionless computer!
